Rare Dylan recordings are music history captured live

Inevitably, Bob Dylan has become what he admired.

Like the influential Woody Guthrie once was, Dylan remains America’s most chronicled and consistent folk troubadour, extending centuries-old traditions.

Of course, Dylan, now 78, travels by bus and jet plane, not by hitchhiking or on freight trains — as did Guthrie (1912-67), who wrote “This Land Is Your Land,” still an unofficial American “national anthem” 72 years later.

One of Dylan’s first original tunes was “Song to Woody,” written for the role model he emulated, and recorded for his first album (1962).
