Biography of Rafael Correa
Rafael Correa is a state and political figure from Ecuador who served as the President of Ecuador from 2007 to 2017.
He holds a Doctor of Economics degree and is a graduate of the University of Illinois in the United States. Prior to becoming President, Correa held the position of Minister of Economy.
Presidential Election and Inauguration
Correa won the presidential post in the elections held on November 26, 2006, thanks to his socialist slogans in support of "ordinary people" and his anti-American rhetoric.
He was inaugurated on January 15, 2007, with the presence of presidents from Bolivia, Venezuela, Brazil, Chile, Nicaragua, Peru, and Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
